Strengthening Supply Chain Logistics Management

Strengthening the logistics management information systems (LMIS) is an important objective in addressing the challenges of health commodities distribution in Pakistan. Our team has applied a systematic architected and rational approach to define country's needs for supply chain and logistics information management, identified the most appropriate and effective technology solution to address them and provided the necessary technical support in the development and implementation phase.

Logistics Management Information System for Vaccines (vLIMS)

  • Government of Pakistan supports national immunization programmes by providing a well-designed logistics management system for vaccine management.
  • vLMIS is closely coordinated with existing information system dependencies and has customised and enhanced the existing vaccine delivery structure of Pakistan EPI centres and SDPs.
  • vLMIS System is a management information system capable of collecting and reporting data along with a stock inventory control system to ensure proper management of all supplies.
  • vLMIS System also caters for storage and warehousing of adequate capacity and quality to ensure their integrity and distribution/maintenance.
  • One critical area addressed in vLMIS is the cold chain management of vaccines, as vaccines are biological products that must be kept within a narrow temperature range, usually 2-8°C (36-45°F).

Logistics Management Information System for Contraceptive Supply Chain (cLIMS)

  • The LMIS is a web-based health commodity information system catering the logistics management of health products for both population and health sectors.
  • The LMIS helps the decision makers in planning, quantification, procurement and distribution of health commodities to the end user level.
  • The LMIS helps to ensure commodity security through historical and up-to-date data from public and private stakeholders across the country.
  • The LMIS provides continuous monitoring and availability of health products at all levels from national, provincial, districts and health facilities in both public and private sector thus preventing stock-outs and expiries to prevent No Commodity No Program situation.

Tuberculosis Drug Management Information System (TB-DMIS)

  • Logistics management for Tuberculosis health commodities remained poorly managed in most of the country.
  • Government of Pakistan has introduced a well-designed logistics system for tuberculosis commodities with trained personnel, distributed in standard LMIS formats and established inventory control procedures.
  • With TB-DMIS implementation, programs can avoid wasting valuable tuberculosis medicine resources through prolonged and frequent stock outs, overstocks and losses by reducing the likelihood of stock outs and overstocks that can lead to product expiration.
